Highlighting the Nursing Section

Texas School Procedures has just completed updating the entire Nursing Section. Recent additions include Mosquito-Borne Illnesses and Personal Care Assistance for students needing assistance with toileting.

NOTE: TxSP has had several inquiries stating that their school nurses understand that there is a new requirement that schools must get a doctor’s approval before administering over-the-counter medication. We want to clarify that this is not a requirement at this time. In August 2024, the Texas School Nursing Organization proposed a new requirement for Texas schools. This proposal would require a doctor’s note for any over-the-counter medication before the school nurse can give it to the student. Each District should decide whether or not to enforce this proposed requirement until it becomes law.
